Do Not Judge!

Criminal Law and Christianity, Volume I

The definition of good and evil is determined by laws established by God, a historical ruler or the will of the people. Whoever violates the laws becomes guilty, is held liable and then punished. The message from Jesus of Nazareth about the benevolent God and trust in His absolute willingness to forgive is completely different.

Eugen Drewermann conducts a cultural-historical survey of the concepts of punishment and law from the early cultures in Mesopotamia to the Germanic, Carolingian and Staufer peoples in the European Middle Ages. And he shows how the cross is the memorial of Jesus against this violence, both internally and externally.

  • An astonishing analysis of basic mechanisms in human society
  • Ways out of inhuman juridification
  • Lively lectures by the well-known author
